Hong Weng has a foundational education first in the sciences before switching over to the visual arts in 2001. His life experiences and worldview have since expanded considerably as the visual arts is boundless and ever-changing, crossing multiple disciplines such as history, politics, culture, philosophy, environment as well as science. Hong Weng has extensive experience as an educator and he believes particularly in the value of arts education. He has designed curriculum for and taught in a wide range of schools with Gifted Education and Integrated programmes to Normal Technical stream. He is now building up an in-depth understanding of Singapore and Southeast Asian contemporary art. He mobilises it as a field to engage in critical discourse relating to contemporary issues facing this region through curating and exhibition, and to mould creative, critical and lateral thinking. Hong Weng has a B.A (Hons) in Fine Arts and an M.A in Asian Art Histories from LASALLE College of the Arts and as well as a post-graduate teaching diploma and science degree. He is trained in sculpture and expresses mainly in sculptural or installation forms when he does art. Since graduating, he has co-curated an exhibition on Thai contemporary painting, which was shown in One East Asia in June 2013.
