Vidhya is a Singapore-based art curator, who is currently the Curatorial Director of The Gallery of Gnani Arts (a leading contemporary art gallery in Singapore and the region). She has curated more than forty contemporary art exhibitions since 2003, having been researching and writing about the visual arts on a regular basis. She holds an M.A. in Asian Art Histories and a B.A. (Honours) in Arts Management, jointly presented by The Open University (the United Kingdom) and LASALLE College of the Arts (Singapore). From 2000 to 2006, Vidhya had researched for the South Asia Department of the Asian Civilisations Museum (National Heritage Board) and for the Singapore Philatelic Museum (National Heritage Board). Vidhya was indeed the first curator of the multimedia-based SGH Museum (situated at the historic Bowyer Block in the Outram Campus). Her research interests revolve around Asian Aesthetics, the significance of ethnic rituals and objects, the sculptural tradition of medieval South india and the impact of contemporary visual culture and image-making.
In 2006 and 2007, she had contributed a monthly article to the Singapore Art Gallery Guide, under her column entitled ‘Aesthetic Awakening’. She was also invited to be the Guest Editor of the exclusive Indian Art issue (October 2010) of The Pocket Arts Guide in Singapore. She has edited and written for several catalogue publications (all of which have been accessioned into the collection of the National Library Board, Singapore). Vidhya has guest-lectured on Hindu Art at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art (Singapore) and she continues to lecture at LASALLE College of the Arts intermittently.
