Suraen holds a BA in Arts Management from LASALLE College of the Arts and has worked as a gallery ganager for a contemporary art gallery for two years. He then widened his perspective and understanding of the visual arts by obtaining an MA in Asian Art Histories at his alma mater in 2017. His MA thesis specifically examined Singapore art and is titled Contemporary Singapore Art: Conceptual Strategies and the Question of National Identity.
