Noorshidah is a visual art educator with 12 years of teaching experience. She has a BA with Honours in (Western) Art History and an immense passion for academic writing and research work. For years, she had to put her interest on hold to focus on classroom teaching. It took the setting up and running of two art galleries as part of her portfolio at work to re-awaken these inclinations that had laid dormant. She signed up for LASALLE’s MA in Asian Art Histories Programme not only to answer her heart’s calling but also to expand on her knowledge. When time permits, Noorshidah tries to keep up with her art practice. She prefers collage as an art form, and works with found images. In recent years, she has also began experimenting seriously with papercuts. Noorshidah took up Italian language and Latin during her university years to complement her interest in the Italian Renaissance. At the moment, she is also learning Chinese with emphasis given to reading, in the hope that this will aid her future research undertakings. Her research interest includes 14th – 17th century Italian art, colonialism, and pre-and post-war art of Singapore and Malaysia.
