Wee Yan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts (Distinction) from the University of Western Sydney, Nepean (Australia), and a Masters of Arts in Asian Art Histories from LASALLE College of the Arts. He received his training as an art-specialist educator from the National Institute of Education (NTU) in Singapore and has been teaching art in the local mainstream as well as independent high schools. His own art research and practice often explores the impact of socio-cultural elements on human subjectivity, and favours the use of mixed-media and installations. He believes the instrumental value of art is not only located in the art work and the experience of it but is also found in the art-making process. His other interests include working with the local special needs community in developing alternative pedagogical approaches to art education.
