Joseph Tham is an educator based in Singapore. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in the Republic of Singapore, with a B.A. (Hons) in History in 1998. He used to co-run a record shop (Flux Us) selling experimental and avant-garde music and organising musical and sound events featuring both local and overseas artists. He was also a member of Singaporean improvisation-based rock group, I.D. Joseph contributes regularly to www.s-pores.com which is an online journal on all things cultural of Singapore. He has contributed a chapter entitled, “Noise As Music: Is There A Historical Continuum?” in Michael Goddard, Benjamin Halligan and Nicola Spelman (eds.), Resonances: Noise And Contemporary Music. London: Bloomsbury, 2013. He has also written a chapter for an upcoming publication, entitled “Chapter 8 – A History of English-Language Popular Music”, in Jun Zubillaga-Pow and Ho Chee Kong (eds.) Singapore Soundscape: A Musical History of the Global City. Singapore: National Library Board, 2014.
