“The study of history is to undercover new knowledge to make tomorrow better.” – This was the statement that sparked Howie’s interest in art history. With Singapore becoming a global hub for art, he sought to increase his understanding of Singapore’s unique art history through the MA Asian Art Histories programme at LASALLE College of the Arts.
Howie’s MA studies complemented his interests in collecting Southeast Asian art with a focus on Malayan modern works. His research focuses on the impact of art patronage and art markets on the artistic styles of Cheong Soo Pieng and Chen Wen Hsi in Singapore from the 1950s to the 1970s.
Howie has over 30 years of experience in the technology industry, which has enabled him to gain new insights during his MA into the growing innovations in art and technology.
