Southeast Asian Contemporary Art has recently been receiving a lot of attention from some of America’s major museums and institutions. For example, the Getty Foundation is supporting research projects on Southeast Asian contemporary art by the Power Institute at the University of Sydney. The Clark Institute co-organised a colloquium titled “Histories of Art History in Southeast Asia” which was hosted by the University of the Philippines, Manila in March 2013. In 2012, Singapore-based curator June Yap was appointed Curator of Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative which tasked her with acquiring works by South and Southeast Asian artists for an exhibition to be held in February 2013 at the Guggenheim Museum, New York. The exhibition, titled “No Country: Contemporary Art for South and South Asia, opened in February 2013.
