2 June to 30 June 2013, Numthong Gallery at Aree, Bangkok

anthropos

Anthropos-Bangkok is the first in a series of innovative and thought-provoking group exhibitions featuring 10 emerging artists from Thailand and Singapore: Kamolpan Chotvichai (Th), Genevieve Chua (Sg), Tada Hengsapkul (Th), Jeremy Hiah (Sg), Piyarat Piyapongwiwat (Th), Ana Prvacki (Sg), Sufian Hamri @ TR853-1(Sg), Tawan Wattuya (Th), Jason Wee (Sg), and Prasert Yodkaew (Th).

From photography to painting, drawings, graffiti and mixed-media installations, Anthropos investigates a subject of collective concern: the recesses of human depth where the metaphysical realm of the mind encounters the physical space of the body. Combining sensual, ghostly or otherwise dynamic allusions, the works featured in Anthropos-Bangkok tackle themes of cultural belonging, social rituals and the body as archetype of aesthetic perfection.

This exhibition was curated by Loredana Pazzini -Paracciani, who graduated from the Asian Art Histories Programme in 2011.
